Srimathy Mohan

Founder/Director

Srimathy Mohan, a performer, a choreographer, and a teacher, is one of the senior disciples of the eminent guru Padmashree Professor Sudharani Raghupathy. Srimathy started her training when she was 10 years old and has continued her training with her guru for the past four decades. She founded her Bharatanatyam school Silambam Phoenix, in alliance with Shree Bharatalaya, in May 2000.  

 Since her Rangapravesham in 1983, she has given several performances in India and the United States. She was part of a 15-part television program titled Bharatanjali presented by her Guru in 1981 and an 8-part television program, again called Bharatanjali (1989). She was a principal dancer in a Bharatanatyam production titled “Krishnam Vande Jagatgurum”, which was presented in 7 different cities in the US in Fall 2007.

Srimathy has also received training in Carnatic vocal music under Kalakad Sri. S. Mahadevan, and at Shree Bharatalaya as well. An engineer and mathematician by training, she holds a B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Alabama, an M.S. in Operations Research from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Montreal. Srimathy is currently an associate professor of Supply Chain Management in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.
